Antoine Griezmann signs new deal with Atletico Madrid as striker commits future to club until 2022

Antoine Griezmann has signed a new deal with Atletico Madrid - but has left the door open for a move to Manchester United .

The French striker has committed his future to the Spanish club by penning a new contract until 2022.

But although he has seen his salary increase to a huge £12.3million a season, Griezmann's release clause remains unchanged at £88m.

That means United would not have to fork out any more than they were prepared to pay this summer, should they decide to re-enter the race for the 26-year-old.
He said: "The first thing I want to do is apologize to people who have misunderstood my statements. Maybe I could express myself wrong or some would like to make headlines where there were none, but since I have arrived I give everything for my club, my colleagues and my coaching staff and I am very happy to relive a season more with all of you. "

The Old Trafford club were in pole position for his signature this pre-season but he decided to remain in the Spanish capital when Atletico's transfer ban was upheld.

Diego Simeone will be unable to bring in any players this summer and Griezmann opted to stay put.
