Driver overtakes lorry in heartstopping manoeuvre and almost causes a major incident

This is the heartstopping moment a driver races to overtake a lorry in the middle of the road in a hugely dangerous manoeuvre.

The driver of the car who captured the terrifying incident was forced to slam on his brakes to avoid a serious crash.

Pete Hampson was driving along the tranquil route in Yorkshire with an HGV about to pass on the opposite side of the carriageway.

But then a blue Ford Focus suddenly races through to overtake the lorry at speed.

Pete, who slammed on his brakes, can be heard shouting from the shock, and swearing at the reckless driver's actions.
Speaking later Pete said: "As you can see in the clip, this reckless driver decided it’d be a good idea to try and squeeze through a tiny gap at a high speed.

"Thankfully I caught things on my dash cam and handed the footage straight to the South Yorkshire Police.
"You always see these kinds of clips on YouTube but never expect them to happen to you – thankfully this driver avoided any collisions, otherwise it could’ve been much worse."

The incident happed on the Woodhead Pass at Dunford Bridge at around 12.40pm on Saturday, May 27.

South Yorkshire Police have been approached for comment.
